PokeSim Complete Guide
Everything you need to know – from type matchups to bonus stats, auto‑capture, and more!
1. Map & Exploration
The game world is a 50×50 tile grid. Use the arrow keys or on‑screen buttons to move your trainer.
- 🌿 Grass tiles – Every step has a chance to trigger a wild Pokémon encounter.
- 🏜️ Dirt tiles – Safe zones, no encounters.
- 🗺️ Different maps – Each map has its own catch rate, required trainer level, and Pokémon pool (IDs 1–20000+).
- ⭐ Special spawns – Some maps include legendary, mythical, or Paradox Pokémon as rare encounters.
Tip: Your trainer level (sum of all your Pokémon’s levels) must meet the map’s requirement to explore it. Higher level maps offer stronger wild Pokémon!
2. Battles & Type Effectiveness
When you step on grass, a turn‑based battle begins. You choose one of your active Pokémon’s four moves to attack.
🔥 Type Effectiveness – Attack vs. Defense
The table below shows how effective each attack type (left column) is against each defense type (top row).
2× = Super effective
0.5× = Not very effective
0× = No effect

⚔️ Attack & Defense Bonuses (Wild & Owned Pokémon)
Every wild Pokémon can have bonus stats that make battles more dynamic:
⚔️ ATK+
Deals 25% more damage
🛡️ DEF+
Takes 25% less damage
🏃 SPD+
Acts first in battle
- Single bonus – 35% chance (one of ATK/DEF/SPD).
- Double bonus – 10% chance (two stats).
- Triple bonus – 3% chance (all three stats!).
- No bonus – 52% chance.
When you catch a Pokémon, it keeps its bonus stats! Train them wisely.
⏱️ Turn Order – Speed Matters
The faster Pokémon attacks first. Speed is based on level + SPD bonus. If speeds are equal, the turn is random.
💥 Damage Calculation
Damage = (Move Power ÷ 5) × (Attacker Level ÷ 2) × Type Effectiveness
Then modified by: ATK+ (×1.25) if attacker has it, and DEF+ (×0.75) if defender has it.
Strategy tip: Use super effective moves, and keep Pokémon with ATK+ and SPD+ as your main attackers. DEF+ tanks are great for catching tough wilds.
3. Catching Pokémon
Weaken a wild Pokémon, then press the Catch button. Your chance increases as its HP drops.
- Catch cost: You pay a percentage (default 10%) of the total XP needed for your active Pokémon’s next level. Example: If your Pokémon needs 1000 XP to level up, you lose 100 XP when you attempt a catch (win or lose).
- Catch rate: Max 45% (map dependent), minimum 5%. Lower HP = higher chance.
- Auto‑capture rule: If you encounter the same species 5 times (tracked in your Pokédex records), the 5th encounter will be automatically added to your collection when you defeat it – no catch attempt needed!
Tip: Save your catch attempts for rare or shiny Pokémon. For common ones, just defeat them 5 times to auto‑capture.
4. Shiny Pokémon
✨ Shiny Pokémon are extremely rare alternate‑colored versions. In PokeSim, the shiny rate is 1 in 4096 (same as modern main series games).
- Shiny wild Pokémon have a sparkling animation and a special badge.
- When caught, they keep their shiny status – you’ll see the ✨ badge on your team and collection.
- Shiny Pokémon do not have higher stats, but they are highly prestigious!
Tip: Every encounter is a chance. Keep exploring – you never know when a shiny will appear!
5. Leveling & Evolution
Winning battles gives your Pokémon XP. When XP reaches the requirement (level × 300), the Pokémon levels up. Its HP and stats increase.
Evolution: When a Pokémon reaches the required level (e.g., Charmander → Charmeleon at Lv.16), it evolves automatically right after battle. The evolution updates the Pokémon’s name, types, and moves.
Tip: Some Pokémon evolve only after reaching a high level. Keep training them – evolutions are huge power spikes!
6. Coins & Move Customization
You earn coins from every victory (wild level × 5). Use coins to teach your Pokémon new moves.
- Move editor: Open any Pokémon’s card and click “Moves”. You can select up to 4 damaging moves from a list of all level‑up moves (or all moves if level‑up data is missing).
- Cost formula: You pay only for the increase in total move power. Each point of power costs 35 coins.
Example: Replacing a 40‑power move with a 90‑power move costs (90-40) × 35 = 1750 coins.
- No refunds: Lowering power is free, but you don’t get coins back.
Tip: Save coins for high‑power moves (e.g., 120+). A well‑chosen move set can turn the tide in any battle.
7. Team & Collection
Your Team holds up to 6 Pokémon that you use in battles. The first slot is your Active Pokémon – the one that leads every battle.
- Collection: All other caught Pokémon are stored here. You can search, sort, add them to your team, or release them.
- Move editing works for any Pokémon, even those in your collection.
- Releasing: Be careful – you cannot recover a released Pokémon. You can’t release your last team member.
Tip: Keep a diverse team with different types and bonus stats. Swap Pokémon in and out of your team before battles using the “📦” button.
8. Pokédex Records & Global Ranking
Encountered Pokémon (Records): Every wild Pokémon you meet is logged in your Pokédex. You can see its name, type, generation, category (Normal / Legendary / Mythical / Paradox), and how many times you’ve encountered it.
Auto‑capture trigger: When the counter reaches 5 for a species, the next defeat = auto‑capture.
Global Ranking: Compare your total trainer level (sum of all your Pokémon’s levels) and total encounters with other players. Climb the leaderboard by catching, training, and battling!
Tip: Check the Ranking page to see where you stand. The more you play, the higher you’ll go!
9. Merkado – Level 100+ Market
Once your trainer level reaches 100, the 🛒 Merkado link appears in the navigation bar. Inside, you can buy rare items, special Pokémon, or other surprises (to be expanded in future updates).
Tip: Reach trainer level 100 by leveling up all your Pokémon – both in your team and collection count toward your total level!
10. Install PokeSim – Play Anywhere
PokeSim is a Progressive Web App (PWA). You can install it on your phone or computer for an app‑like experience.
- On Android / Chrome: Tap the “Install App” button in the About modal or footer, or use the browser’s “Add to Home screen” option.
- On iOS (Safari): Tap the Share button, then “Add to Home Screen”.
- After installation, you can play offline/online – your progress will sync when you reconnect.
Tip: Installing saves data and makes the game run faster. Look for the “Install PokeSim App” button!
